Notice of Data Incident

Jackson Thornton was recently impacted by a cybersecurity incident experienced by Netgain Technology, LLC (the Cloud storage and data hosting provider we use to operate and run QuickBooks and Sage 50 Accounting).

Jackson Thornton was notified by Netgain on December 2, 2020 that Netgain has been impacted in a cyber incident causing disruption to the Netgain platform used by Jackson Thornton. According to Netgain, the incident occurred between November 24, 2020 and December 3, 2020. Initially, Netgain was unable to confirm if any data stored by Jackson Thornton was impacted by the incident. In order to determine if any data stored by Netgain customers was impacted, Netgain hired a forensics company to conduct an investigation. Following Netgain’s investigation, Netgain confirmed on January 15, 2021 that data stored by Jackson Thornton was potentially compromised. Netgain then underwent further review to locate and furnish the potentially compromised data Jackson Thornton for our review. On January 19, 2021, Netgain provided the files that may have been impacted in the Netgain incident. Between January 19, 2021 and March 29, 2021, Jackson Thornton personnel underwent a lengthy review of the data that may have been impacted. This review involved the manual extraction of data from password protected files in order to prepare notices to potentially impacted individuals and work to secure credit monitoring services for these individuals.

Based on Netgain’s investigation, we are notifying individuals out of abundance of caution that full names in combination with financial information and social security numbers may have been viewed by an unauthorized individual.
