“Winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing.” I bought and read the book by Jerry Kramer with this quote as its title when I was 11 years old. Early on, I applied it primarily to sports and I played every game, every practice, with winning being the end goal. Later, the quote took on new meaning in the business world, as a husband and father, and in life in general. It does not just mean that you must have the highest score to win, but you must exert 100% effort to whatever activity in which you are involved. The desire to win includes helping clients to achieve their desired results as well as teaching your children to be productive members of society with high integrity. It took a long time for me to understand that, as Vince Lombardi said, "sometimes in order to ultimately win, you might have to lose along the way."
