CPA Experienced Hires

The Audit Supervisor* works with other audit team members to plan, design, and execute effective assurance engagements; performs a wide range of audit and accounting procedures impacting industry-specific issues; audits complex areas/transactions as well as prepares financial statements and related reports; proactively interacts and communicates with clients to gather information to ensure timely engagement wrap-up; and is responsible to in-charge engagements of varying size and complexity simultaneously. (*Classification of Supervisor or Manager will depend on extent of experience.)

This individual’s primary office will be our Montgomery office, but some travel is required. The majority of the client base in within two hours of the office.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• Current CPA in Alabama
• Minimum of three years of progressive professional Audit experience
• Prior experience with state and local government audits
• Prior in-charge experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to communicate with both internal and external clients
• Good time management skills and the ability to meet strict time/budget guidelines
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to commute to client locations (including occasional overnight travel)

Other Opportunities

The IT System Administrator will primarily be responsible for assisting with a wide variety of technology systems, including both firm-wide and entity-specific systems; will assist with troubleshooting and resolving firm-wide issues, new system implementations, large-scale upgrades of existing systems, special focus projects requiring multiple resources and expertise from across the enterprise, and other IT-related projects; will work in a complex multi-office environment and will not be limited to a specific area of technology but will have access to all areas of technology.

If someone excels in this position, he/she will have the opportunity to grow into the IT System Administrator II role, as he/she gains experience and expertise and takes on more responsibility and oversight.

The job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Provides assistance to our helpdesk staff in resolving firm-wide issues.
• Provides assistance when complex issues are escalated from our helpdesk staff.
• Quickly identifies system issues and works with staff to proactively address them.
• Develops a technical design draft of assigned IT projects.
• Ensures project scope, timelines, deliverables, budgets, and quality standards are met.
• Assists with project deployment.
• Monitors backups and troubleshoots backup issues.
• Creates and maintains project documentation as appropriate for every assigned project.
• Effectively plans and ensures timelines and next steps are agreed upon and documented.
• Ensures disaster recovery, security, and availability are addressed as a part of the project.
• Coordinates vendor relationships; ensures vendors’ work and efforts match agreed upon scope.
• Ensures appropriate communication of project status to management, helpdesk staff, and actively involved partners.
• Sets an example in establishing and maintaining a professional demeanor and being accountable for performance.
• Develops and maintains expert level knowledge and skills in technical and professional areas.

• Bachelor's degree or higher with focus on Information Technology.
• Minimum of two years of related experience. Project coordination experience a plus.
• Strong knowledge and experience in systems administration/deployment for Windows Servers, Active Directory, VMware vSphere, and SANs. Experience with VMware Horizon View, Cisco Unified Communication Manager, Exchange, and SQL is a plus.
• Strong problem solving skills; excellent troubleshooting and conflict resolution skills.
• Experience assisting with IT system implementations.
• Consistent track record in successful project completion (on-time, on-budget, goals met).
• Hands-on configuration experience of switches, routers, and firewalls.
• Demonstrated ability in consensus-building and working with a team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills; must be self-driven.
• Ability to work with people in all levels of the firm.
• Ability to modify work schedules and practices to meet job requirements; requires occasional overnight travel.

Our Administrative Services Department (ASD) in Montgomery is seeking an experienced administrative professional for a Firm Service Rep position. This individual’s primary responsibilities will be processing and assembling financial statements and tax returns, including proofing for procedural accuracy.

Requirements include:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent proofreading skills for grammatical, numerical, and formatting accuracy
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Adobe, and paperless systems, including very strong skills and experience in Excel and Word (expert level preferred)
• Ability to provide excellent service to many “internal clients” throughout the firm and to meet deadlines on request
• Ability to multi-task, handle frequent interruptions, and to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work positively with a variety of personalities
• Experience in a professional services environment preferred (such as public accounting firm, law firm, engineering firm, or bank)

Internships for Future CPAs

Interested in pursuing a career as an advisory CPA? Each year, Jackson Thornton offers internships for top accounting students. Check with your school for information on internship opportunities with us. If your university does not coordinate a formal internship program, we will consider individuals who have completed their junior year and have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Internships are usually awarded by late September for a January start, and typically run through March or April.
